Dogy Dash
Saturday – Totally Immersed Doggy Dash
9 keen Sup’ers and 9 dogs (not all so keen), turned up to compete in the much awaited Totally Immersed Doggy Dash and with $200 prize money up for grabs (thanks to Totally Immersed) – it was dog eat dog! There was plenty of dog swapping right up until minutes before the event officially got underway – and then they were off! MC for the day Chance Hanlon whipped the assembled crowd who were watching from the banks of the river, into a frenzy. View photos here.
Gordon from Hobie took out the People’s Choice Award, with Manuka who spent the entire race crawling all over him and was nicknamed “the rat” by Chance.
Best Doggie Paddler was taken out by Flash and the adventurous Jazzie (who was more interested in being in the water than on it).
Fastest Female Paddler was Lisa Cross, who ended up with Teddy the pup who was so afraid he spent the whole time down Lisa’s shirt whimpering. From the riverbank, it looked like she had forgotten to take a dog with her!
Fastest Male Paddler was Paul Mackie, who spun some story about Harley the overweight black Labrador dislocating his shoulder on the way to the event, so he ended up racing with the much smaller, non-overweight Jack (the Jack Russell). Paul will stop at nothing to be first over the line!
Special mentions to: Maddie Cross our youngest competitor, who paddled with the well-drilled Sparky (who thinks he’s a human, not a dog); Yaz and Loren Keller who paddled with Tanner (the stud father) and Silver (the son of the stud), both dogs having spent hours supping (and secretly training for this event) You would have thought Yaz would have won an award for best-dressed paddler and dog, as they were the only competitors in matching outfits!; Trish Mackie who paddled with Axcle (aka “Precious”) who has also spent many hours secretly (or not so secretly) training in the upper reaches of Currambene Creek; and Tiffany Baker who paddled in her usual attire of …. a bikini… accompanied by Mickey.
Special thank you to club members Rick Barnes and Mark Betts who lent their time, boards and expertise to Club President Jason on the day and Mel from Jervis Bay Stand Up Paddle for her generous donation of prizes. The mugs are sure to be collector’s items!
