Did you manage to get into the Shoalhaven River Festival on Saturday 26th Oct?

Well what did you miss? Well you can catch up with the photos over here.

For starters, the weather turned on an absolute cracker of a day with plenty of sunshine and a steady South Easterly breeze to keep the temperature nice and comfortable.

From the banks of the Shoalhaven River we got to enjoy displays by some Vintage Putt Putt boats, sailing boats, Wakeboarding displays by local legend Josh Sanders and a couple of other very talented wake boarder’s (man they get some air).

We saw the determination of the 2 Dragon Boat teams battling it out with our Mayor Ann Sudmalis vacating 1 of the boats in the last race being rescued by the lads in the rather large Coastal Patrol boat, good job guys.

And of course we had a few members racing for glory in 3 separate division races – Race board, Non Race board and the favourite of the day, Dogs on SUP. There were 5 very talented hounds and their equally talented team captains racing to the finish line (without incident that is) until Paul Mackie’s mascot Harley decided after the race he’d have a bit of a dip. No harm done and Harley was back on the board in no time. (Disclaimer: No animals were harmed during the final race).

We had 14 members turn up to compete in the races which proved to be a big hit (hopefully we’ll get a few more next year). Hans Wetsteyn would like you to keep your eyes open for a pair of sunnies that seemed to fly off his head during his rather grand entrance to the river. He took a running leap off the bank into the river and when he surfaced his words went something along the lines of “Did I have a pair of sunglasses on then?”, I’m sorry mate but I think you did.

Now I know the SUP Dog race was won by Broachie and Toby, 2nd place went to Lisa and Sparky, 3rd was taken out by Paul and Harley, 4th went to Loren and Tanner, and No 5 went to Yaz and Quicksilver. Now the placings for the other races I will have to get back to you on that 1.

Lucky door prize of a brand new Hobie paddle was snatched up by Paul Mackie.

We would like to thank Mel from Jervis Bay Stand Up Paddle for donating prizes for the races and thanks to everyone that was a part of the 1st Shoalhaven River Festival as a competitor and a volunteer. See you very soon.
